ISLAMABAD: Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail of the Supreme Court has described the current statute permitting eavesdropping by spy services as “ambiguous,” stating that the case will also affect ongoing proceedings.
The seven-member constitutional court heard the matter on Wednesday, and the SC judge made these comments.
In July 2024, the current government authorized Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), the nation’s top espionage agency, to intercept and track texts and calls in order to suspect a national security breach.
The Ministry of Information Technology announced in the announcement that the ISI had been authorized under Section 54 of the Pakistan Telecommunication (Re-organization) Act, 1996.
