Overnight strikes hit major Ukrainian cities
A heavy Russian missile and drone attack hit Ukraine overnight and killed at least 22 people. Children were among the dead. Officials described it as one of the largest attacks in recent months.
The strikes damaged homes and civilian areas in multiple regions. Energy sites were also targeted.
Dnipro suffers major residential destruction
In Dnipro, at least 16 people died when apartment blocks were hit. Among the victims were an eight year old boy and three women.
Rescue teams pulled bodies from the rubble as they searched through collapsed buildings. Officials said part of the residential block was completely destroyed in the blast.
More than 90 people were injured across the country during the same wave of strikes.
Kyiv faces heavy drone and missile assault
Ukraine’s capital Kyiv also came under intense attack. Six people were killed there.
Large explosions were heard across the city early in the morning. Drone activity and ballistic missile launches were reported during the attack.
Fires broke out near residential buildings, a petrol station, and a construction site. Several homes were damaged and parts of the city experienced power cuts.
Government response and air defense appeal
President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia targeted civilian infrastructure and energy systems across Ukraine. He confirmed more than 100 people were injured nationwide.
He also said Ukraine urgently needs more missile defense support, especially systems like Patriot air defense units used to intercept incoming missiles.
Russia claims military response
The Kremlin said the strikes were a response to earlier Ukrainian attacks. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Russia continues what it calls systematic strikes against Ukrainian military targets.
Russia’s defence ministry claimed all intended targets were hit. Ukraine has rejected these claims and says civilians are being deliberately affected.
Wider impact across regions
Other areas, including Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia, also reported damage. Energy infrastructure and industrial sites were hit, causing disruption and concern among residents.
Officials warned that air raids could continue and urged people to stay alert and follow safety instructions.
