Court Verdict in Glasgow
Former actor Iain Robertson has been found guilty of rape and several assault charges following a High Court trial in Glasgow. The jury also convicted him of domestic abuse related offences involving two women.
The court heard that the offences took place between 2004 and 2019. Robertson, aged 45, denied the allegations during the proceedings.
Evidence Presented in Trial
During the hearing, the court was told Robertson behaved in a violent and controlling manner towards the women involved. One complainant gave recorded testimony, which was played to the jury.
She told the court that Robertson ignored her boundaries and continued to assume she had romantic feelings for him, even after she said she wanted a platonic relationship. She also said she felt pressured and uncomfortable during their interactions.
Incident Described by the Victim
The woman said she initially trusted Robertson due to their previous working connection. She later stayed at his home in Glasgow’s Tradeston area, where she planned to sleep separately. She said Robertson told her she could share his bed and that nothing would happen.
The jury found that he raped her on one occasion between 2018 and 2019 and also committed a separate sexual assault.
Court Decision and Next Steps
The jury reached guilty verdicts on five charges in total. Robertson showed no reaction as the decision was delivered and was taken into custody immediately. He has also been placed on the sex offenders register.
Sentencing has been scheduled for 23 July. The judge ordered background reports before the final decision is made.
