New Evidence Reveals Critical Moments After Southampton Attack
Newly released evidence has revealed that police officers took eight minutes to discover the stab wound that fatally injured 18 year old student Henry Nowak during a tragic incident in Southampton.
The details emerged after the conviction and sentencing of Vickrum Digwa, who received a life sentence for the attack. The evidence provides a clearer picture of the events that unfolded after officers arrived at the scene.
Confusion at the Scene Delayed Discovery
According to the newly disclosed transcript, officers initially struggled to understand what had happened. Digwa repeatedly told police that he had been racially attacked by Henry. His claims created confusion and influenced the officers’ first assessment of the situation.
During the incident, Henry repeatedly told officers that he had been stabbed. However, police did not immediately believe his claims because they were dealing with conflicting accounts.
Body camera footage previously showed an officer responding skeptically before restraining Henry. The footage later sparked widespread public criticism and led to unrest in Southampton.
Officers Found Serious Chest Wound After Eight Minutes
Timeline records show that officers discovered Henry’s fatal chest wound eight minutes after arriving at the scene.
Medical evidence later confirmed that the wound penetrated approximately eight centimetres into his chest. The injury caused severe internal bleeding and left him in a critical condition.
Once officers realized the seriousness of the injury, they immediately began emergency treatment and attempted to save his life.
Emergency Teams Fought to Save Henry
Emergency responders continued life saving efforts for more than 50 minutes. Medical teams worked at the scene while additional specialist support arrived.
An emergency doctor transported by helicopter eventually pronounced Henry dead at 12:37am on 4 December 2025.
The tragedy shocked both emergency services and the wider community.
Judge Recognized Challenges Faced by Officers
During sentencing, Judge William Mousley KC acknowledged the difficult circumstances officers faced that night.
The judge noted that police had received a convincing but entirely false account of events from the attacker. He also explained that officers sometimes encounter suspects who exaggerate or fake injuries while under arrest.
The court heard that one officer showed genuine shock after discovering the severity of Henry’s chest wound while performing CPR.
Pathologist Says Injury Was Unsurvivable
Medical experts who testified during the trial described the chest wound as extremely severe. According to the evidence presented in court, the injury caused extensive internal bleeding.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary stated that the pathologist made it clear there was nothing officers could have done to prevent Henry’s death. The medical evidence showed that the wound had already caused catastrophic damage before emergency treatment began.
The case continues to attract public attention as new details help explain the sequence of events leading up to the tragic death of Henry Nowak.
