In American boardrooms, state legislatures, and college campuses, as well as currently throughout the federal government, diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives have come under fire.
Hours after taking office last week, President Donald Trump started to follow through on his pledges to fight against these kinds of policies by signing an executive order that outlawed activities like “environmental justice programs,” “equity initiatives,” and DEI considerations in federal hiring.
Additionally, the new Republican White House mandated paid administrative leave for federal diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility office staff. Trump’s new Department of Government Efficiency, which is headed by billionaire Elon Musk, is also targeting DEI. Last year, Musk referred to DEI as “just another word for racism.”
