The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) of Pakistan declared that, as of February 1, 2025, gas rates for captive power plants would increase by Rs 500 per MMBtu.
The previous tariff of Rs 3,000 would be significantly increased to Rs 3,500 per MMBtu.
Only captive power plants will be impacted by this price increase; domestic customers, businesses, CNG, cement, fertilizer, and the larger power industry will continue to pay the same amount for gas.
As Pakistan struggles with more significant energy issues, the announcement was made. Separately, the administration is working to have US sanctions lifted so that the Pak-Iran gas pipeline project may move forward. This is a crucial step in securing more reasonably priced energy sources for the country.
