Just hours after President Donald Trump signed the order and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) released the letter announcing it, a judge temporarily blocked it on Tuesday.
Following a lawsuit brought by a collection of organizations representing grant recipients, the judge postponed the order until Monday of next week.
According to the updated letter that was released on Wednesday, “OMB Memorandum M-25-13 is rescinded.”
What caused the apparent U-turn is unknown.
The administration is still working on a freeze, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement.
“The federal financial freeze has not been revoked. The OMB letter is only being revoked,” she stated.
