ISLAMABAD In response to the growing demand for donkey meat, bones, and hides in China for the production of the traditional product, e-jiao, Ministry of National Food Security and Research (MNFSR) officials revealed Thursday that a recently built slaughterhouse in Gwadar has begun production.
At the meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Food Security, which was presided over by Committee Chairman Rana Muhammad Hayat, authorities revealed that China and Pakistan had signed an agreement for the purchase of donkey corpse components.
The committee was told that a Chinese company has started operations in Gwadar, which is a big milestone in this unorthodox export industry.
Officials said that the logistics of transporting live animals were difficult and less convenient when Hayat asked why Pakistan was not exporting live donkeys instead.
