PESHAWAR: In an effort to incite discontent throughout the nation, antagonistic foreign powers are allegedly escalating violence in the turmoil-plagued Kurram region, according to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
The fiery chief minister expressed concerns that non-state players were determined to “use these sparks to set entire Pakistan on fire” in his statement on Wednesday. “Land disputes can occur anywhere, but the scale of the conflict in Kurram demands deeper attention.”
Kurram has been plagued by violence for decades; in November of last year, two different convoys traveling under police protection were attacked, resulting in the deaths of at least 40 individuals. This sparked a new round of conflict that has killed over 150 people.
In the most recent occurrence, a convoy of trucks transporting supplies and food headed for Kurram.
