As this year’s second vaccination campaign gets off, the National Institute of Health (NIH) has confirmed a new case of polio in Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This is the third case from the province this year and the eighth recorded nationwide.
The confirmation was made a few days after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was told at a review meeting that there had not been any new polio cases since February 10. Sharif attributed the victory to hard work across the country.
The prime minister, who chaired the meeting on April 17, expressed gratitude for the efforts of partners, foreign organizations, and government agencies working to eradicate polio in Pakistan.
More than 45.4 million children under five, including more than 2.6 million in Balochistan, are to be vaccinated as part of the most recent polio eradication campaign, which was started this week.
