Washington: On Saturday, a federal appeals court overturned a decision that had mandated that the Trump administration reinstate over 1,000 Voice of America (VOA) employees.
The government was directed by US District Judge Royce Lamberth on April 22 to “take all necessary steps” to return workers and contractors to their jobs at the US news service and to begin news broadcasts on radio, television, and the internet, as well as some grants.
In a 2-1 ruling, the appeals court said that Lamberth lacked the authority to mandate that the workers resume their jobs and to demand that $15 million in funds for Middle East Broadcasting Networks and Radio Free Asia be restored.
