According to Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, who was answering questions during Question Hour, the passport’s international respect is not attained by only making it “colourful,” but rather by resolving internal problems and advancing national honor.
Recognizing problems with the passport system, the minister said, “The respect of the green passport will come through putting one’s own house in order, rather than through appearances.”
According to a written response from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan’s passport only grants visa-free entry into 35 nations, underscoring its limited global clout. The ministry also acknowledged that it has lost credibility because many non-Pakistanis, especially Afghans, were previously illegally granted Pakistani passports.
