ISLAMABAD: The problem was first brought to the attention of then-prime minister Imran Khan by former army head General Qamar Javed Bajwa. The folder contained information about alleged corruption connected to Bushra Bibi, who was the First Lady at the time.
But Khan reportedly told Bajwa, “Bushra Bibi is my red line,” and pushed back right away.
Khan rejected the folder’s contents as “one-sided,” according to people with knowledge of the conversation. When Bajwa proposed that the prime minister investigate the connections of Bushra Bibi’s associates, such as Farah Gogi, Usman Buzdar, the chief minister of Punjab at the time, and others, Khan reaffirmed that Bushra Bibi was off limits.
