A portion of the approximately £1.5 billion the fried chicken company is spending over the course of five years will go towards opening new restaurants in “key locations” like north-west England and Ireland, where it first launched a British restaurant in Preston sixty years ago.
Every year, fried chicken companies in the UK and Ireland receive billions of pounds from their customers.
KFC unveiled its strategy as rivals, such as Popeyes, which gained notoriety for catering singer Beyoncé and rapper Jay-Z’s wedding in 2009, open locations in Britain and Ireland.
It stated that it will invest close to £500 million in 500 new locations and renovate current stores. The bulk of its more than 1,000 restaurants in the UK and Ireland are currently run by franchisees.
