According to three open-source experts, satellite data of a Russian air base captured just after Ukraine launched a drone attack deep within Russia over the weekend suggests that multiple strategic bombers were severely damaged and destroyed.
Ukraine used 117 unmanned aerial vehicles that were launched from containers near the objectives to target at least four air bases in Russia. Multiple planes were hit in at least two locations, according to Reuters-verified drone footage of the operation.
An photograph of one of those airfields, in the Siberian city of Irkutsk, was provided to Reuters by the satellite company Capella Space. The photo was shot on June 2, the day following one of Ukraine’s most intricate and successful operations in the country’s more than three years of conflict.
