Following the Israeli strike that murdered three persons taking refuge in the Catholic church in Gaza City, Pope Leo XIV has reiterated his demand for a ceasefire in Gaza.
The Pope was “deeply saddened to learn of the loss of life and injury caused by the military attack” on the Holy Family Church, according to a cable.
“Struck by the Israeli army” is how the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, which is in charge of the church, described it. One of the nine injured individuals is in critical condition at the hospital. The parish priest suffered minor wounds.
The Israeli military stated that the incident was being investigated, and the country’s foreign ministry expressed remorse for any damage to a place of worship or innocent bystanders.
