Nearly 40 million people in Pakistan live in extreme poverty, and 44.7% of the country’s population now lives below the poverty line, according to the World Bank’s updated global poverty benchmarks.
The international financial organization modified the income level for lower-middle-income nations like Pakistan in order to update the standards for measuring poverty worldwide. The former barrier of $3.65 per person has been raised to $4.20 per person as the new daily income benchmark. According to this criterion, 108.95 million Pakistanis, or those making less than Rs1,200 per day, are now formally considered impoverished.
Although 39.8% was the poverty rate under the previous definition, the updated metric takes into account increased living expenses and purchasing power in developing nations.
