The hearing of appeals to suspend the sentences of Imran Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and Bushra Bibi, his wife, in the £190 million case was postponed by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday. This gave the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) until June 11 to designate a special prosecutor.
The appeals were heard by a two-member panel that included Justice Asif and Acting Chief Justice Sardar Sarfraz Dogar. When the PTI leadership and legal team showed up to court with victory signs, they were full of hope. But those hopes were dashed when the court decided not to provide relief right away.
The hearing date was set after “vows, wishes, and prayers,” according to defense attorney Salman Safdar, who showed extreme anger over the delay.
