The Israeli foreign ministry has announced the deportation of six activists who were arrested by Israel after their boat was stopped as they were attempting to violate the Israeli naval blockade of Gaza.
They were being moved to Ben Gurion Airport “after more than 72 hours in Israeli custody following the unlawful interception of the Madleen Freedom Flotilla in international waters,” according to a statement made earlier by the Israeli human rights organization Adalah.
According to Adalah, which gave the activists legal counsel, two additional passengers were still being held by Israel on Friday while they awaited deportation.
Rima Hassan, a French-Palestinian member of the European Parliament, was among those who departed on Thursday.
