There were ongoing nuclear talks. Even if it was tense, conversation was happening. The Israeli airstrikes followed. No trigger was present. Iran has not launched a new attack. No provoking. It was merely a deliberate move to escalate by the Netanyahu administration, which knew that Washington would eventually have to choose a side.
This strategy has been used before in Pakistan. In 2019, we commemorate Pulwama. More pertinent, though, is the Pahalgam incident from earlier this year. Indian officials quickly accused “Pakistan-based” actors without any supporting proof. Indian military began air and drone strikes across the Line of Control before the initial intelligence report was finished. Casualties among civilians ensued.
