KARACHI: A 24-year-old male patient died at the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital, marking Sindh’s first dengue-related fatality of the year.
The patient had been on a ventilator for the last two days and had a severely low platelet count of only 32,000, according to hospital officials. The fact that a healthy person normally has between 150,000 and 450,000 platelets shows how serious the situation is.
This is the first reported dengue fatality in Sindh in 2025, as the province continues to record relatively low levels of illnesses compared to recent years.
In Sindh, 295 dengue cases have been reported so far this year. Karachi is the epicenter of dengue activity in the province, with reports of — occurring there alone.
