US President Donald Trump rekindled a verbal spat between the richest and most powerful person in the world on Tuesday when he proposed that the government efficiency department examine the subsidies given to Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s enterprises in order to save money.
Trump’s comments followed Republican mega-donor Elon Musk’s reaffirmation of his opposition to the massive tax-cut and spending plan and his pledge to remove politicians who backed it despite his campaign’s focus on cutting government spending.
As Musk’s primary source of income, the electric carmaker, is depending on the success of robotaxis being tested in Texas, the conflict may create new challenges for Musk’s business empire, which is why Tesla shares plunged more than 6% before the market opened.
