With temperatures reaching a record 32.3°C on Monday, the 2025 Wimbledon tournament got underway under a scorching sun. This was the warmest opening day in the tournament’s history, and players and fans were struggling with the intense heat.
The French weather service Météo-France confirmed the temperature, which broke the previous Day 1 high of 29.3°C set in 2001, according to the All England Club. As players often went for ice towels and fans sought cover under umbrellas and hats, the relentless sun turned the normally temperate grounds into a spectacle straight out of the Australian Open.
The top seed and reigning champion from Spain, Carlos Alcaraz, faced Italy’s Fabio Fognini in five sets despite the harsh circumstances on Centre Court.
