ISLAMABAD Beginning next week, monsoon activity is predicted to increase across in Pakistan, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicting more widespread rain, wind, and thunderstorms in a number of regions.
The PMD states that while moist currents from the Bay of Bengal are expected to intensify starting on August 17, monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea are already making their way into the upper areas.
On the same day, a westerly wave that is already impacting northern regions is also predicted to get stronger.
Rain-wind/thundershowers with sporadic heavy falls are predicted for Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and Gilgit-Baltistan from August 14 to 17.
In Pakistan, 312 people have died as a result of the monsoon (with Punjab accounting for more than half of these deaths, 164) and 740 people have been injured.
