As monsoon rains continue to pour and river levels dangerously rise, several districts in Punjab and parts of Balochistan are experiencing an increasingly dire flood situation that is causing extensive damage, displacement, and fatalities.
Farmlands are flooded by the Chenab River.
Near Head Muhammadwala, the Chenab River’s water level has increased sharply, submerging communities like Nazar Wala, Kheda, Lak, and Wasande Wala. Local farmers have been devastated by the flooding of vegetable gardens and fruit orchards.
Concerns have been raised by locals regarding the government’s tardiness. “Preventive actions are not being taken. A local farmer stated, “Crops are under water, and the water flow is so strong that it could cause a major disaster.”
According to Abdul Rahim, the in-charge of the district control center, early warning systems have been turned on.
