Following his direct engagement in resolving the recent border dispute between Cambodia and Thailand, the deputy prime minister of Cambodia announced Friday that the country would nominate US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
In response to a text message asking if Cambodia intended to propose Trump for the award, Chanthol said, “Yes.”
Chanthol thanked Trump for bringing peace and said he deserved to be nominated for the prize, the most prestigious international award awarded to an individual or organization judged to have done the most to “advance fellowship between nations” in a previous interview with reporters in the capital, Phnom Penh.
In June, Pakistan declared it will nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his efforts to mediate the dispute with India.
