Two days before President Donald Trump’s deadline for Russia to agree to peace in Ukraine or face fresh penalties expires, U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin on Wednesday.
In an attempt to find a breakthrough in the three-and-a-half-year conflict that started with Russia’s full-scale invasion, Witkoff took a last-minute flight to Moscow. A short video of him shaking hands with Putin at the beginning of their meeting was broadcast on Russian official television.
After almost three hours, according to Russian news sources, the negotiations came to an end, and Witkoff’s motor convoy was spotted departing the Kremlin.
Kirill Dmitriev, the Russian investment envoy, had met Witkoff when he arrived and had taken him for a walk in a park.
