NEW DELHI: As tensions with the United States increase, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to China for the first time in more than seven years, a government source announced on Wednesday.
According to a government source with firsthand knowledge of the situation, Modi will travel to China for the multilateral Shanghai Cooperation Organization conference, which starts on August 31. A request for comment was not immediately answered by India’s foreign ministry.
His visit coincides with the most severe crisis to hit India-US relations in years, following President Donald Trump’s imposition of the highest tariffs among Asian peers on Indian imports.
