A top expert on marine litter is asking delegates from more than 170 nations to reach a comprehensive global deal on plastic pollution as they get ready to gather in Geneva for a crucial round of negotiations.
The term’microplastics’ was created by Professor Richard Thompson, who emphasized the need for immediate action to safeguard the earth and human health for future generations, according to The Guardian.
As the coordinator of the scientists’ alliance for an effective plastics treaty, Thompson is attending the discussions after being designated one of Time’s 100 most influential people this year.
