KARACHI: To commemorate the Urs of Sufi poet and saint Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai, the Sindh government has declared August 9 (Saturday) as a public holiday.
A Sindh government statement states that on 14th Safar, 1447 (AH), or August 9, all provincial government offices, educational institutions, businesses, autonomous and semi-autonomous entities, and local councils will be closed.
Essential services, on the other hand, will not be notified and will continue to operate across the province.
Sindh declares August 9 to be a public holiday.
The Urs lasts for three days and starts annually on the fourteenth of Safar, which is the second month in the Hijra calendar.
Poetry marathons and literary seminars will kick off the three-day Urs ceremony.
