ISLAMABAD The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), the two dominant coalitions in the center, have agreed to run together in the next nationwide by-elections.
At a news conference in Islamabad on Saturday, PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi, who also oversees the federal railways ministry, stated that “both parties [PPP and PML-N] have agreed to contest the by-elections together.”
Since the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) recently banned a number of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MPs due to their convictions in cases involving the May 9 riots, several constituencies are up for grabs.
According to the ECP timetable, on September 18, by-elections will be held in the constituencies of PP-87 Mianwali-III, NA-66 Wazirabad, and NA-129 Lahore-XIII.
