Peter Navarro, the White House’s trade adviser, claimed that India was “now cozying up to both Russia and China” and that its imports of Russian crude were financing Moscow’s conflict in Ukraine.
Navarro stated in a Financial Times opinion piece that “India needs to start acting like a strategic partner of the US if it wants to be treated as such.”
India is being unfairly singled out for purchasing Russian oil, while the US and EU continue to buy products from Russia, according to a prior statement from the country’s foreign ministry. Earlier this month, US President Donald Trump used New Delhi’s ongoing purchases of Russian oil as justification for imposing an additional 25% duty on Indian exports.
