While the New York university consented to 48 extra hours of talks to resolve a protest encampment, Columbia University students heckled House Speaker Mike Johnson on Wednesday as he visited the epicenter of nationwide student demonstrations over the Israeli war in Gaza.
Johnson visited the campus shortly after the university extended the deadline for reaching an agreement to remove an encampment that has come to represent the campus protest movement from Wednesday morning to Friday morning. Johnson stated that his visit was intended to support Jewish students who were feeling intimidated by some anti-Israeli demonstrators.
Law enforcement responded to some of the nationwide campus protests by displaying force.
State Highway Patrol officers wearing riot gear and mounted police officers were seen in Texas on Wednesday.
