Keely Hodgkinson stood stunned, eyes and mouth wide open, palms clamped on either side of a head dizzy from two laps that had changed everything.
Three years ago, she was an Olympic underdog, but now she is one of the gold medal favourites in Paris 2024.
“It’s quite a privileged position to be in,” Hodgkinson told Sport.
“It’s exciting but a little bit daunting, and a very different position to what I was in last time.”
Hodgkinson was 19 when he competed in the previous Olympics. Tokyo 2020 was an opportunity that would not have occurred if the Games had not been postponed by 12 months because to the Covid-19 outbreak.
