Instagram is experimenting with non-skippable advertisements.
Users of the social networking platform can currently swipe or scroll past advertisements that show up in their Stories and Reels feeds in addition to their primary image and video stream.
Users claim they are unable to ignore the “ad break” feature, which is now being tested.
Online images display a timer that must count down to zero in order for regular operation to restart.
When someone clicks for further information, the Meta-owned platform notifies them that “sometimes you may need to view an ad before you can keep browsing.”
The news has received confirmation from Instagram that a trial is underway.
The statement read, “We’re always testing formats that can drive value for advertisers.”
Advertiser approval of the trial is still up in the air, but it doesn’t seem like users are enjoying it either.
The action was dubbed “bonkers” by someone on Threads, who also said that it “seems like an aggressively pushy move to earn more ad dollars for Meta.”.
Some have suggested that we boycott the platform.
“We just won’t be scrolling,” a person from X (formerly Twitter) declared.
