DALLAS: According to Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s American lawyer, Clive Stafford Smith, she continues to face constant sexual harassment at a Fort Worth, Texas, jail. She also claims that two weeks ago, a security guard sexually assaulted her as a form of punishment.
In September 2008, a New York federal district court indicted Dr. Aafia, a neuroscientist from Pakistan, on attempted murder and assault charges. These charges were related to an incident that occurred during her interrogation with US authorities in Ghazni, Afghanistan, and she refuted them.
She was tried, found guilty, and given an 86-year prison sentence in early 2010 following her 18 months of incarceration. Since then, she has been detained in the US.
He revealed, “Sexual abuse of Dr. Aafia has not stopped so far,” over the phone with Geo News following their meeting.
“She is being consistently subjected to physical harassment.”
The attorney claimed that throughout his meetings with Dr. Aafia on Thursday and Friday, he spoke with her over the phone through a glass wall. He continued by saying that because the phone was broken, they had to yell in order to talk. After two days, he complained to the jail administration, and another phone was given to him.
According to Dr. Aafia’s lawyer, Aafia was in tears when her sister, Dr. Fowzia, paid her a visit on Sunday. While the jail officials dragged her away, her sister was kept imprisoned in a different room for 1.5 hours.
