ISLAMABAD In an effort to defuse the ongoing political tension, Imran Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has chosen to “step back” from his hard line and has directed his party officials to make contacts both inside and outside the Parliament, sources informed Geo News.
The sources said that the party’s legislators would strengthen their links with the parties in the ruling coalition government and that the party’s leadership would undertake discussions with other political parties outside of Parliament.
The PTI founder made his choice following his meeting with Pakistan’s Chief Justice, Qazi Faez Isa, during his appearance before the Supreme Court the previous day.
CJP Isa recommended that Khan visit the Parliament to assist in resolving Pakistan’s issues “as the country needs to move forward” during the hearing about the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) law revisions.
During his video connection appearance before the SC bench from Adaila jail, where he has been detained since August 2023, the imprisoned PTI founder lamented political “victimization” following his removal from office in April 2022.
According to the sources, the former prime minister has granted his party’s three-member committee the power to get in touch with the authorities.
However, they also mentioned that Ali Amin Gandapur, the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, is involved in back-door communications.
