KARACHI: The Sindh Excise & Taxation department decided on Thursday to create a special office for issuing premium number plates after obtaining a sizable sum of money through an auction.

According to a press release, the decision was made in Karachi during a meeting presided over by Sindh Excise & Taxation Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon.

Memon also declared that the premium number plate auction’s second phase would begin shortly. “The first phase of the number plates’ auction remained successful and it garnered people’s appreciation,” he stated.

The Sindh government’s Excise and Taxation Department sold 40 premium number plates in the first phase of the province’s first-ever number plate auction on June 30, bringing in a total of Rs675.4 million.

Premier plate number one brought in Rs 100 million, premium number five brought in Rs 53 million, premier number seven brought in Rs 46 million, premium number eight brought in Rs 41 million, and premier plate number nine brought in Rs 40 million.

The highest bidders received ownership certificates for the premium number plates.

This time, Memon declared that the money raised from the sale of premium automobile registration plates will go toward the admirable goal of aiding the survivors of Sindh’s catastrophic floods in 2022.
