Over the course of his nearly six-decade career, Kiffin served as a coach for eight NFL teams and seven colleges. His first position was with the University of Nebraska as a graduate assistant.
In 1970 and 1971, he led the Cornhuskers to consecutive national titles as their defensive coordinator.
He was the defensive coordinator at Arkansas from 1977 to 1979 before accepting his first and only head coaching position at N.C. State, where he went 16–17 in his three seasons.
The following year, he entered the NFL and quickly rose up the ranks, returning to college in 2009.
As the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ defensive coordinator for their 2003 Super Bowl victory, Kiffin at last achieved success in the NFL. He’s in the Ring of Honor for the franchise.
