In three different helicopter sorties, the Pakistani Army successfully rescued six international climbers from the K2 base camp. The climbers, who were trying to ascend K2, were from Nepal, Chile, the United States, and Macedonia. At base camp, they were ill with altitude sickness.
As soon as the climbers sent out a distress signal, the Pakistan Army launched a rescue effort. The sick mountaineers were evacuated from the base camp to a Skardu hospital where they received medical attention.
The climbers who were rescued conveyed their appreciation to the Pakistan Army for the prompt evacuation that might have prevented their deaths. This rescue mission serves as a reminder of the dangers of high-altitude mountaineering and the vital role that emergency services play in these kinds of trips.
