An unexpected incident happened when Mayor Eric Adams repeatedly mentioned Pakistan in his speech at India’s Independence Day celebrations in New York. Mayor Adams spoke to the crowd on August 15 while carrying both the American and Indian flags.
The Times of India reported that the Mayor three times named Pakistan by accident rather than India. The Indian community there responded noticeably to the mistakes, congregating around the mayor and yelling pro-Indian slogans.
“It is the Pakistani people who continue to show that public safety is essential for our prosperity,” Mayor Adams remarked in error during his speech. “I have known this community for a long time, Little,” he later said.
