In the most recent episode of the You’ll Never Beat Kyle Walker podcast, the Manchester City defender, who played eight years for Spurs from 2009 to 2017, called his old boss “so, so nice.”
Walker said he would “never, ever forget” the scene where Villas-Boas spoke to his Spurs team after being fired, adding that other players in the team started crying as well.
“I’m crying… Michael Dawson is getting emotional,” declared the 34-year-old. “That’s how much he meant to the lads.”
After taking over as Spurs’ manager in July 2012, Portuguese Villas-Boas nearly led the team to the team.
Real Madrid struggled the next season despite reinvesting in the squad after the Wales star signed a contract worth a then-world record £85.3 million in the summer of 2013.
Following a run of dismal performances, Villas-Boas was fired in December 2013 following a humiliating 5-0 loss to Liverpool.
Walker expresses sadness that the team’s performance was insufficient to retain their manager.
