Pakistan has been requested by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to make sure that all previously agreed-upon economic requirements are fully implemented, not only at the federal level but also in all provincial budgets.
Under the Fund’s ongoing program, the IMF has made it clear that provincial governments would need to cut spending in order to match their budgetary plans with the larger national reform goal, according to people familiar with the situation.
The demand is part of the IMF’s drive for more growth-oriented governance, economic transparency, and stricter fiscal restraint.
