A new study by cognitive psychologist Dr. Helen Keyes, who also serves as dean of Anglia Ruskin University’s School of Psychology and Sport Science, demonstrates the benefits of arts and crafts for mental health and general wellbeing.
The study, which was published in Frontiers in Public Health, discovered that artistic endeavors like knitting and painting give significant platforms for self-expression in addition to a sense of accomplishment.
The research team examined 7,182 participants’ responses from the UK’s national Taking Part survey to determine the extent to which creative hobbies enhance life satisfaction.
Over 37% of those surveyed said they had engaged in craft activities in the previous year.
The individuals’ levels of pleasure and life satisfaction increased, according to the results.
