Following what the police called a “suspected terror attack” at the city’s major bus station, the gunman was shot and killed on the spot.
Shira Chaya Suslik, 19, a sergeant in Israel’s border police, has been identified as the victim.
Ten patients are being treated by medical professionals, according to Israel’s ambulance service, some of them have gunshot wounds.
According to the EMS service, four of the injured are in “moderate condition” and one is in a “moderate to serious” state.
They’ve been brought to the Soroka Hospital, which is close by.
According to police, the gunman was “eliminated in a few seconds by the security forces” who were there, according to a preliminary inquiry.
Israel’s Transport Minister Miri Regev demanded the deportation of “terrorists'” families shortly after the incident.
She stated on X that “a deterrent punishment is necessary to stop the attacks on Israeli territory.”
Leader of the Israeli opposition, Yair Lapid, wrote on X that “we must act hard against terrorism” and called the attack “severe and despicable”.
A gunman opened fire on members of the public in the Jaffa region last week, resulting in a shooting and knife attack in Tel Aviv that claimed the lives of seven people.
Israeli officials have said that they are nationwide on high alert in anticipation.
