Leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Reform Ahsan Iqbal gave the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) assurances on Sunday that they would begin work on the proposed local government (LG) amendment bill following parliament’s approval of the much-discussed constitutional package.
This happened the day after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the MQM-P delegation met, and it was during that meeting that the former allegedly connected the latter’s support for constitutional revisions to the strengthening of local government.
Local media claimed, citing sources, that the delegation of a political party with headquarters in Karachi requested that the premier modify Article 140-A pertaining to local bodies.
The establishment of a federal constitutional court and the determination of the Chief Justice of Pakistan’s (CJP) tenure are two of the objectives of the constitutional package.
