Yoel Guzansky, an Israeli researcher, wrote an opinion piece for the Jerusalem Post that analyzed the defense cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan and called it a declaration with more symbolic than operational weight.
Although the agreement was widely viewed as a “Muslim version of NATO’s Article 5,” the opinion piece, titled “A complex reality: Saudi-Pakistani alliance is not a hostile pact against Israel,” contends that rather than representing a new strategic breakthrough, it primarily builds on decades of existing ties between the two nations, according to The News.
Guzansky stated, “The defense agreement between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, which was signed last week, rightfully garnered media attention.” Its main provision, which states that an attack on one will be interpreted as an attack on both, is essentially a Muslim interpretation of Article 5 of NATO.
