KARACHI: According to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, personal preferences are the basis for the party’s resistance to judicial reforms, which include the creation of federal constitutional courts.
The statements follow the government’s failure last month to pass a bill amending the Constitution due to strong resistance from members of the opposition benches and supporters, which compelled the administration to start a consultation process.
Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), who has a significant role in influencing the bill’s passage in parliament, indicated on October 11 that he would be willing to support the government’s “constitutional package” with “ifs and buts” while emphasizing the need of forging an agreement among all political forces.
