The deceased, identified as Shahzaib from Garden, was hit by a dumper on Nishtar Road. His wife sustained serious injuries and remains in critical condition at the hospital.
The dumper driver, Niaz Hussain, initially fled but was later arrested and is now under police interrogation while authorities review his records and CCTV footage.
The incident escalated when leaders of the Dumper Association, including its president Liaquat Mehsud, arrived at the scene with armed guards. Protesters confronted Mehsud, demanding accountability, and one of the guards reportedly fired warning shots, heightening tensions.
Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori condemned the use of firearms in public, stating that threatening citizens with guns is completely unacceptable. He called on the police to take strict legal action against the driver and expressed condolences to Shahzaib’s family, emphasizing that his injured wife should receive full medical care. The governor also warned that traffic violators causing fatalities must face strict punishment.

In a statement, Mehsud said he had contacted the local SSP to request additional police support and expressed solidarity with the victim’s family. The Dumper Association defended the shooting, claiming that unidentified individuals fired at Mehsud’s vehicle during the chaos and that attempts were made to set his car on fire.
Karachi continues to struggle with traffic-related fatalities, with over 536 deaths reported in 2025 so far, including 60 involving trucks. The city has seen numerous accidents this year, often prompting violent reactions from angry crowds.
