Roma Riaz, Pakistan’s representative at this year’s Miss Universe in Thailand, has addressed critics who commented on her skin tone with pride and confidence. She stated that her complexion mirrors the soil of Pakistan and represents the strength and resilience of Pakistani women.
In a heartfelt video on Instagram, Roma said, “My skin reflects the soil of Pakistan, the women who built our homes, raised our families, and carried our nation in their hearts. To every Pakistani woman told she’s too dark or too different—you too are the face of Pakistan.”
She spoke openly about the deep-rooted issue of colourism, highlighting how societies often celebrate lighter skin while forgetting the beauty in natural diversity. “I represent a new generation of South Asian women who defy narrow standards of beauty,” Roma added, emphasizing that true beauty is not limited to a single skin tone or set of features.
Roma also called on Pakistanis to embrace unity and positivity, urging them to love and celebrate their own people. “Representation means nothing if we can’t even honor our own nation,” she said, speaking in both English and Urdu.
Through her words, Roma Riaz sends a bold message: pride in one’s roots, culture, and natural beauty is powerful—and Pakistan’s women deserve to be celebrated in every shade.
